Patients who have age spots, sun damage, vessels and rosacea can expect superior clearance in 1-3 treatment versus 4-6 compared to the standard IPL. Most patients who are exposed to the sun for long periods of time will notice brown spots appear along their face, chest, hands and other parts of their body. This is common; however, most patients do seek treatment in our office to rid of these blemishes. Whether your areas of concern are brown or red, our IPL can exceed your expectations in getting the clearance you desire.
WHAT IS LUMECCA? Lumecca is the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat pigmented and vascular lesions. After just one use, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin. Lumecca operates using photothermolysis, which provides a photo facial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? In just 1-3 sessions Lumecca improves the appearance of:
Age spots (red/brown pigmentations), Vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias (spider veins) and poikiloderma, Rosacea (redness), Freckles, Sun damage
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED? Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.
WHAT STEPS MUST BE TAKEN BEFORE THE PROCEDURE? Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING AND AFTER LUMECCA? During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca that feels like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards, the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED? An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings.
HOW QUICKLY WILL I SEE RESULTS? Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photo facial sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS? Most patients do not experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
Four weeks before treatment:
Avoid any tanning for 3-4 weeks prior to treatment AND use SPF 30+ sunscreen. It is extremely important to wear sunscreen daily and avoid intentional sun exposure to prevent adverse reactions to your treatment such as burns, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
Do not use self-tanning lotion or spray tan for 4 weeks prior to treatment. This can result in adverse reactions such as burns, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
For your safety, any patient arriving with a tan or sunburn may be rescheduled.
One week before treatment:
Stop all “irritating” skincare treatments including retinol, glycolic acid, hydroquinone, exfoliating scrubs and Clarisonic cleanser for 3 days prior to your treatment.
Day of treatment:
The treatment area needs to be clean and free of makeup, lotions or sunscreens.
Be sure to notify your provider if there have been any changes to your health or your medications since your last visit. Some medications may cause you to be more sensitive to IPL treatment and may result in burns or an allergic reaction.
Notify your provider of any cold sores, rashes, or open wounds ANYWHERE on your body (not just in the treatment area).
